Plain White T’s – Wonders of the Younger

I had the opportunity to sit down with Demar Hamilton, drummer of the Plain White T’s, to discuss their new album, “Wonders of the Younger”, which will be released in stores on October 19.

Q. What can your fans expect from the new album?

A. You can expect a more ambitious and creative record. We wanted to go a little outside our comfort zone on this record. We wanted to explore different arrangements, and strive to be more adventurous and exciting, lyrically, musically, and thematically.

Q. What song are you most proud of off of this new record?

A. It’s hard to say because I am honestly most proud of every song. If I had to choose one though it would probably be a song called “Broken Record.” I really like the feel of the song. I think it might be the most hooky song we’ve ever written. Also, it has a lot of swagger and I feel like that’s something we’ve never really had in the past.

Q. Plain White T’s have released four full-length albums and this will be your fifth.  How does “Wonders of the Younger” differ from your previous albums?

A. I think for one it is sonically the best album we’ve ever made. We really wanted to push the boundaries there. Also, I would say this is the first album where we into it with a central theme for the record. So we kept that in the back of our minds for the entire process of the record. We definitely put a lot of thought into every little detail this time around.

Q. Do you guys have a big tour planned in support of the new album?

A. At the moment we don’t have any big tours lined up. Right now we are doing a lot of international promotion and then we will do a short tour leading up to Christmas playing various radio shows.

Q. What is the meaning behind the title, “Wonders of the Younger”?

A. Basically the meaning behind “Wonders of the Younger” is nostalgia, imagination, and adventure. We wanted this record to give you the same feeling you got when you watched movies like The Goonies for the first time, or Indiana Jones. It’s just about that sense of wonder and adventure you felt when you were a child.
