K Será

"We love the behind the scenes work, but our passion is getting out and performing for our fans and making new ones along the way."

A true rock & roll band, Sacramento, CA natives, K Será, are on the fast train to success. Members Mike Caswell (vocals/guitar), Sean Stack (guitar), David Christenson (piano), Dustin Combs (drums), and Jordan McCoy (bass), strive to have their music heard by many and it’s something I think could easily be achieved with time. The band has been seen on many big stages including the Warped Tour and have caught the attention of many. I interviewed singer, Mike Caswell, and here’s what he had to say.

Q. You started out as a solo project, but are now a full band. What was the decision process in doing this?

A. I always wanted the project to have other members, it was just difficult in the beginning to find the right people.

Q. You guys released your EP titled, “Me, Before Women & Children”, back in January. Any plans to release some new music in the coming year?

A. We just released a new EP titled “The Cantos” on Itunes last week. We recorded all the songs on the EP with Thomas Dutton & Casey Bates throughout 2010 in Seattle , WA. Very happy we were finally able to have these songs released.

Q. What are some of your hopes as a band in the near future?

A. We plan on touring as much as we can to support the new EP. Aside from Warped tour this summer and few one offs, we’ve spent the majority of this year in the studio writing and recording, so it’s going to feel amazing to refocus on playing live. We love the behind the scenes work, but our passion is getting out and performing for our fans and making new ones along the way.

Q If you could open for any rock & roll band in the world, who would you like it to be?

A. Everyone in the band would answer this question differently, so I will do my best to answer for everyone.

Dustin – King Diamond

Sean –  Elton John

Jordan – Coheed & Cambria

Mike – Muse

Q. You guys played Warped Tour back in 2009. What was one of the best memories from that?

A. We only played one date back in 09, but this past summer we were invited back to play the first two weeks, which was amazing. Warped Tour truly is the “boot camp” for all other touring, especially in a van and trailer. We were constantly at the mercy of the weather, be it the 110 degree heat in AZ or the three days in TX where the tour found itself battling hurricane Alex. I’ll never forget how hard it was raining the 2nd TX date & the kids still being so excited to be there, that was Warped Tour in a nutshell for me. The show must go on, no matter what.

Q. If you could go back and re-record any one of your songs, which one would it be and why?

A. I wouldn’t mind going back on redoing “Little War” & giving it a little more a theatrical touch like the rest of our newer material, though I really like that we were able to put live strings on it.

Q. Out of all of your songs, if you had to pick one that is your favorite, which would it be?

A. Definitely a tough call, but “Me Before Women & Children” has a special place in my heart. It was the first song that we wrote with this line up & it was when I knew I had finally found the right mix of people for this band. Also, having Thomas Dutton sing the bridge was a high point in my recording career thus far.

Q. What are some of your favorite venues you’ve played?

A. All the venues on Warped Tour were amazing, but Angel Stadium for Bamboozle was my favorite. My mom took me there for a baseball game when I was young & catering was really close to where we sat, so it was a nice trip down memory lane.

Q. What has been one of your favorite moments since forming K Será?

A. For our first shows of 2010 we put together an 8 piece “orchestra” to perform with us, that was hands down the most fun I’ve had. We had just finished recording a bunch of new songs with heavy orchestral arrangements, so to be playing them with live players was mind blowing.

Q. If you were stranded on an island for the rest of your life and could only bring one of your songs to listen to, which one would it be and why?

A. We have a song called “Smile” that we recorded with Thomas a while back that I think is definitely the song I would take with me. Whenever we get around to releasing it, maybe you’ll agree?

Enjoy one of their new songs, “Young Forever” off of their latest EP below.
