Stay Golden

"Each day is a new chance to progress ourselves."

If it’s not their extreme stage appeal, then their catchy hooks will surely grab your attention. Stay Golden are a young band from Chicago, Illinois, who are grabbing the attention of many. Members Matt Ayo (lead vocals, guitar), Mike Tomala (drums), Mikey Trix (bass), and Jake Marquis (lead guitar, backing vocals) have made an impression in the Chicago music scene and continue to grow by playing live shows all across the city. I recently interviewed singer Matt Ayo and here is what he had to say.

Q. What made you guys want to get started in the music business?

A. Simple drive and creative flow fuel our band. We are becoming better and better at what we do daily

Q. When did you form and how have you progressed since then?

A. Stay Golden formed as more of a concept in my eyes winter of 09.  Since then, it’s grown into something more with four of the best dudes I could find. We are an actual band now..not just live musicians playing parts that I wrote. Baby steps, baby. Each day is a new chance to progress ourselves.

Q. Do you have any plans to play any shows in the New Year? Maybe do a tour?

A. Most DEFINITELY!  We can’t really comment on the potentially huge things happening after the new year, but SXSW in Austin is definitely in the cards as well as some pretty rad shows!

Q. What bands do you guys look up too?

A. Anyone who has followed their dreams and made it by dedicating themselves 200%.

Q. Matt, you have been in multiple bands in New York and Tampa. How does the local scene in Chicago differ from the scene in other cities?

A. Bands helping bands.

Q. What would be one dream of the bands that you’d like to scratch off your bucket list?

A. Get as MANY people to check us out and just let the music speak for itself…that, and tour Australia!

Q. What has been the best compliment you’ve received so far from being in your band?

A. “I was drawn to tears during your set…it was simply the best thing I’ve experienced in a long time!” –A fan from our show with You, Me and Everyone We Know…I think her name was Lindsay.

Q. If you could look out into the audience and see one famous face watching you play, who would it be?

A. John Lennon.

Q. What are your plans for 2011?

A. SOOOOO many…too many to list. Maybe we can do a follow up interview then?

Q. If you were stranded on an island for the rest of your life and could only bring one of your songs to listen to, which one would it be and why?

A. Tip Top. Honestly, it’s about someone that changed my outlook on relationships and just how messed up things can really get. Pretty definitive moment in my life

Here is their song, “Tip Top” for your listening pleasure.

The End.
